KENNEWICK, Wash. — A scary incident at Plato’s Closet prompted police to warn women to pay closer attention next time they go shopping.
A man recently took a picture of a girl changing in a fitting room in Kennewick according to police.
“I think it is absolutely disgusting and violating,” said mother Brandy Shewchuck.
“It’s scary to know that you can be looked at any time without even knowing it,” added Shewchuck.
Police say it happened at Plato’s Closet on Canal Street.
For employee Kylee Larson, it’s one shift she says she wont’ forget. She made the call to police after the victim complained.
“She said that ‘a guy next to me in the fitting room stuck his phone through the crack and he is videotaping me’,” said Kylee Larson, an employee at Plato’s Closet.
Kylee says she was in shock and went to go check the dressing rooms to see if the guy was still in there, but he took off.
With this man still on the loose, police are urging locals to be aware of their surroundings.
“Especially for kids you don’t want them to be anywhere without you or some sort of adult supervision even in the dressing rooms. Just don’t send them back there alone. You should have a responsible adult watching out for them,” said Sgt. Ken Lattin of the Kennewick Police Department.
Plato’s Closet managers said they’ll rearrange the dressing rooms to separate men and women so this won’t happen again.
Police are still looking for the man. Officials say they’ve received one tip through crime stoppers, but urge you to call if you have any details while the investigation is ongoing.
